I’m generally a reserved person, but I would like to share a little bit about myself with you. I have been married for 36 years. I have two amazing sons, one of whom recently married. The other has resided in Heaven since age 20. After my oldest son passed away, my niece wanted me to take a quilting class. I knew nothing of sewing, much less quilting; however, I agreed to go with her. It was an introductory quilting class and only covered the basics. The first time I saw a t-shirt quilt, I fell in love! All I could think about was making a quilt with my eldest son’s t-shirts and giving it as a gift to his younger brother.
It was a difficult, emotional journey knowing I would have to cut my son’s t-shirts up. (I’m sure there are many of you that can relate to where I’m coming from.) To make a long story short, I was able to finish the quilt and present it to my youngest son as a Christmas gift. No words could ever describe the emotions and love that overcame everyone in the room that day. After that, I was hooked!
I realized that by putting a piece of my heart into my quilts, I could bring others immense happiness. Now, if I don’t control myself, I will sew all day and late into the night. I love every aspect of quilting. I have come to realize many of my fellow quilters do not enjoy the process of actually “quilting.” Several of my friends would bring me their quilt tops and beg me to finish long-arm quilting them. I enjoyed making the vision they had for their quilt a reality. This is what led me to open Mrs. Sew N’ Sew’s Quilt Shop, which allows me to bring even more people’s visions to life.
